Meet Fresh Burwood offers a bold reimagining of the Asian dessert bar — a spatial experience that brings polish, playfulness, and hospitality into Burwood’s vibrant precinct. As part of the wider Meet Fresh franchise, each location is designed as a unique expression of the brand, grounded in its Taiwanese origins yet responsive to its local context.
The project transforms a raw tenancy with a fully glazed shopfront into an immersive retail destination. The design strategy celebrates the transparency of the site, using it as a stage to invite connection and curiosity from the street. Rather than conceal, the open plan layout reveals — placing activity and atmosphere at the forefront of the pedestrian experience.
A palette of warm, earthy tones is layered through natural textures and refined finishes: timber, polished plaster, stone tile, soft fabric, and brushed gold stainless steel. These materials work in harmony to create a calm yet expressive backdrop for the brand’s playful personality. Subtle transitions between hard and soft surfaces enhance comfort, while soft indirect lighting gently defines the space without overwhelming it.
Spatially, the design resists uniformity. Built-in furniture elements — sculptural, curvilinear, and deliberately displaced — act as both seating and visual punctuation, encouraging movement and interaction. A translucent curtain at the service counter provides a flexible, tactile division between patrons and staff, reinforcing both transparency and intimacy. Overhead, a hand-selected pendant light anchors the central dining area, adding a sense of domestic warmth to the otherwise open space.
Gold accents serve both aesthetic and practical roles, doubling as coat and bag hooks to subtly elevate the customer experience. These gestures of hospitality reflect a broader design ambition: to create a dessert venue that feels considered, generous, and culturally inclusive.
Meet Fresh Burwood is a contemporary response to Australia’s evolving lifestyle — where dining is not just functional, but social and expressive. From its prominent street-facing presence to its layered interior, the project demonstrates how a small tenancy can carry a strong civic presence, contributing meaningfully to the texture of the neighbourhood.
